Ethics of Emerging Technologies
Progress in science and technology brings about new and sometimes unexpected ethical issues and dilemmas. Situations and decisions that often were not perceived before these innovations quickly emerge as pressing concerns that need reasoned and rational moral exploration. Even in recent history, developments such as sequencing the human genome, cloning, nanotechnology and attempts to recreate the Big Bang were more likely to be discussed in the realms of science fiction than science fact.
Bringing in to play questions around the purpose, ownership and use of science, this research area incorporates various topics that we have developed expertise in, particularly with regard to considering the unique ethical issues they present and the moral arguments that must be considered to solve these.
